Holidays And Depression

Believe it or not, the most stressful time of the year is the winter holidays. Making plans for Christmas and New Years, finding the perfect gifts, crowds, planning meals, making sure that you have a date for New Years, the list of reasons is endless. And in the end, for someone who is already depressed, it is very easy to find yourself much more depressed by life at this time of year. You might give presents and worry that you spent too much, or not enough. You might worry that people dont like the presents that you gave them.

Well stop.

This is meant to be a time of happiness and joy. It is not a time of stress, and worry. You can find tricks to help you relax through these times. The first is shopping online. Because there are no crowds, you will not have to worry about nervousness. The second is setting limits and feeling good about these limits. Decide how much to spend on people based on how much they spend on you, and how much you like the person. Find things within that limit and dont let yourself get talked into spending any more. Spend some time thinking what you want to buy people and then rest assured that they will like what you get them. As long as you put thought into the gift it will be fine.

As for the stress of the family gatherings, the best way to handle these is not with alcohol. You should plan to spend some time doing breathing exercises before you go to the gatherings, and afterwards as well. Since these are times of stress, they generally lead to tense family parties and you might be better off trying to limit your time there. Plan to spend part of your evening with your family but make other plans if you know that it will be unhealthy for you to remain for too long.

Bathroom Vanity Sinks :: Best internet Bargains!

May 30, 2008 | Leave a Comment

Bathroom Vanity Sinks

When shopping for a bathroom vanity sink, let both function and style be your guide. Bathroom vanity sinks must exist in unity with the cabinet and mirror. Ask yourself what this sink will have to endure and does it belong with in my bathroom design? Is it located in a place where there will there be lots of use, will there be a danger of scratching and chipping or is it located in a guest bathroom that rarely feels a splash of water? Stone is practically indestructible, in addition to some synthetics and metals like stainless steel. While porcelain can be easily chipped and scratched, it can also be more easily repaired and cleaned than metal or stone. Stone is a porous material and so can hold on to stains. Fiberglass is inexpensive but will sometimes dull with wear.
From the revival lavatory basin to green basin of tempered glass your choice of sinks is almost unlimited. Some bathroom vanity sinks will include faucets and drain assembly, releasing you from the task of matching fixtures with basins. Other basic options include under the counter construction or over the counter with lip, square, round, or oval sink counter console. There is also a growing popularity for basins that sit like a bowl on the counter, commonly called the “vessel sink”.
A wide variety of hand made sinks are now available that are both exquisitely beautiful and expensive. If price is a consideration you might want to look for clearance sales that include fixtures and drain assemblies. If you like to do it yourself, you can purchase an antique or used sink that will match your other bathroom furniture. Consider that the sink or the basin have been around since ancient times. You can pick and sort through a host of materials, styles, designs and concepts from various periods of history, each with its unique and specific aesthetic appeal.

Pre-Qualifying for Boat or Yacht Financing :: Cost Cutting Done Right!

May 27, 2008 | Leave a Comment

Pre-Qualifying for Boat or Yacht Financing

Starting the boat financing process can be a challenge. Calling brokers for rate quotes over the telephone can sometimes be confusing; so before you make that step its best to understand how the process works.

With any large purchase that is financed, customers want to get the best rate available to them and boat and yacht loans are no different. Understanding what you are getting into beforehand is important for ensuring you get the best deal. Calling around to different brokers to feel out the market is a smart idea. This will give you an indication of what boat loan rates the market is currently bearing. However, there are many unforeseen elements that this process does not reveal.

So why is it difficult to get a firm quote over the phone? In order to provide an accurate boat or yacht loan quote it is imperative that the broker understands the nature of the purchase including your credit history and current financial standing via an underwriting process. Without submitting a boat loan application though the underwriting process, the broker wont fully know if or how you qualify for a loan. A reputable broker can only give you an indication based on a range of A+ interest rates that may be available to you if you qualify.

So why call different brokers if you cant get a solid answer? Other than gaining a general idea of what A+ credit customers rate is not much reason at all. So what should one do if they are trying to get a solid quote for a boat loan interest rate? Customers should pre-qualify for a boat loan.

Pre-Qualifying for a Boat Loan

Pre-qualifying for a boat loan is a smart choice. Why shop for a boat or yacht without having the financing in place to support your purchase? Pre-qualifying for a loan will create financial structure that will guide you through the purchasing process.

Boat loan brokers that have multiple lending sources will match you with the lender with the best interest rate. Each lender has a unique program and will lend based on a different set of criteria. Thus by employing a reputable boat loan broker, such as SeaDream Marine Financing - www.seadreaminc.com, with multiple lending sources, the broker can match the customer with the appropriate lender and obtain the best market rate.

However, by shopping with multiple brokers you risk damaging your credit score. Brokers that dont underwrite your deal in house may initiate a process of shopping or shotgunning your boat loan application to numerous lending sources in hopes of finding a good deal. This may come at a serious cost to you. Every time a lender receives an application, they will run a check on your credit history. Every inquiry will reduce your credit score. Submitting your application haphazardly to multiple brokers that do not offer in-house underwriting may seriously damage your credit.

Therefore it is wise to ask the broker about their process, including if they underwrite their applications, how many lending sources they utilize, and if they are adept at matching your application to the appropriate lender in their portfolio via the underwriting process vs. randomly shopping your application to many or all of their lenders.

A quality professional boat loan broker will underwrite the loan and then submit it to the appropriate lender for consideration. The lender will then approve the deal and the broker will then call you back with a firm deal that includes a locked interest rate and structure of the financing available to you. You are now officially pre-qualified to shop for the best deal and will have the financing in place to make a strong offer. Once youve decided on a boat the broker will then work with you and the selling party to facilitate the deal within the framework of the approval. When you reach this stage its just a matter of signing on the bottom line and the boat is yours.

Stockings and Hosiery Manufacturing :: Daily Coupon Deals

Stockings and Hosiery Manufacturing

A narrow calf that leads down to a well-turned ankle has something that men find difficult to ignore. When the same leg is covered in a sheer stocking, ignoring it becomes practically impossible!

Women’s hosiery as we know it today — whether the tantalizing Cuban heel seamed stockings that’s carefully rolled on for those special evenings or the practical pantyhose worn to the office — are a far cry from the coarse, hand-knitted wool stockings worn by the peasants of the 17th century.

Not only have the machines invented in [when] been improved upon, a variety of style changes have also been made to women’s hosiery during the past half century.

A 1950s invention marked a temporary disappearance of seamed stockings, and the short skirts of the 1960s led to the invention of pantyhose — passion killers as far as male stocking enthusiasts were concerned.

Modern women seem to have settled on a mixture of the practical with the aesthetically pleasing, with a greater selection of pantyhose being available for day-to-day wear along with a welcome renaissance for seamed stockings. Modern hosiery manufacturing has to accommodate the high demand for quality goods. From the finest 7 denier sheer stockings, through multi-colored and wildly patterned hose and onwards to practical 60 denier pantyhose, women want the best.

Modern stockings and pantyhose are produced on circular machines that eliminate the need for back seams by knitting tubes that are then ’set’ to the shape of the leg. While the first circular machines produced sheer stockings with a reinforced heel pocket, modern machines have eliminated this, offering a better fit regardless of the wearer’s shoe size.

The addition of lycra to the stocking yarn is possibly the biggest break-through in hosiery manufacturing; the result being stockings and pantyhose that combine elasticity with the ability to cling perfectly to the leg.

Unfortunately, the addition of lycra to women’s hosiery has one draw-back.

“While lycra’s great,” says Janine Burke, a beauty consultant and regular customer at www.stockingshopping.com, “I really miss that sheer stocking effect you get with old-fashioned style stockings.” A sentiment shared by many a true stocking connoisseur.

Seamed stockings, having made a huge come-back in recent years, are still available but are manufactured using a different method — one that was used before the invention of the circular machine.

Following the original hosiery manufacturing techniques of the 30s - 50s, flat knitting is used. After the fabric has been produced, each stocking is individually seamed. The top of the seam has a ‘finishing loop’, a small hole that every seamed stocking has as a result of the machinist turning the welt — the stocking top — inside out, in order to finish off.

Once sewn, the stockings are ‘boarded’. This is a process where each stocking is stretched over a flat metal leg form and ’set’ with steam. The knit tightens, creases are eliminated and the leg is correctly shaped.

Because the process is time consuming, seamed stockings are never cheap. Couple this with the fact that around a third of production — especially during the production of sheer stockings — is discarded during quality control and you’ll understand why.

While the women’s hosiery manufacturing process will undoubtedly continue to evolve, there will always be a demand for the sheer stockings of bygone days that are equally as loved by the women who wear them as the men who appreciate the sight of a ‘bit of stocking top’.

Hosiery manufacturing has come a long way — wear your stockings with pride!

Shopping in South Korea: What You Can Consider Buying :: Daily Coupon Deals

Shopping in South Korea: What You Can Consider Buying

We were extremely excited when we touched down at the Incheon International Airport. I had done lots of research on South Korea and brought with me the shopping list that I had prepared earlier. No items to be sparred, we were determined to make this trip a fulfilling one!

Although we had constantly reminded ourselves to be gentle with our pockets, we arrived home with bags of Korean specialties. We did a great deal of shopping in Seoul and Jeju Island, fully utilising every compartment of our luggage bags to make rooms for the things that we bought. Like Singapore, South Korea is a good place to shop. If you are visiting South Korea, here are my recommendations.

– Korean Ginseng –

An expensive and nourishing herb, Korean Ginseng is widely known for balancing the chi in the body, good for the overall well-being of the body. I got to know from the sales assistant that Korean Ginseng is also effective in relieving menstrual cramps in women. Grown in the mountains, Korean Ginsengs between four to six years old are harvested and sold. The older the Korean Ginseng, the higher the price it demands.

Besides the normal white Korean Ginseng that I have mentioned earlier, you will also be able to find what is known as the Red Ginseng in South Korea. The Red Ginseng is prepared by treating white Korean Ginseng in Chinese herbs, giving it a red colour. It is known to be effective in treating erectile dysfunction in men.

Apart from being the main ingredients for many of the Korean cuisines such as the Ginseng Chicken, Korean Ginseng can be taken on its own in small slices or in the form of powder. As Korean Ginseng tastes a little bitter, you may want to consider buying honey coated Korean Ginsengs. The sweetness of honey helps to curb the bitterness of the Korean Ginseng a great deal.

If you find Korean Ginseng too expensive, Korean Ginseng products such as ginseng candies and rice cakes are good and affordable alternatives. Korean Ginseng and ginseng products can be found in many shops in Seoul.

– Amethyst –

We visited an amethyst shop in Seoul. Amethyst is a gemstone that is purple in colour and many womens favourite. I was amazed by the Koreans creativity and brilliant workmanship in jewelleries. Amongst the beautiful pieces of amethyst jewelleries, I came across an amethyst bracelet that could be folded into a four-leaved clover pendant! You should see the WOW written all over my face! Amazing!

We were told by the sales assistant that amethysts come in two grades Grade A and B. Grade A amethysts are darker in colour and more expensive while Grade B amethysts are less expensive but in a lighter purple. Drop some hints to your partner. You might just get yourself an amethyst bracelet as your birthday present!

– Honey –

Honey is good at soothing any discomforts caused by a sore throat. Should you be visiting the Jeju Folk Village, buy yourself a few jars of honey, a perfect gift for everyone back home! Here is a trick that you might want to try. Scoop two tablespoons of Korean Honey into a bowl, followed by some water. Gently sway (not shake) the bowl, allowing the excess honey to stay at the base. Notice that polygons of the same sizes, similar to the cells in a beehive, start to appear in the honey!

– Kimchi –

Kimchis are fermented vegetables served in every Korean meal. They are made of vegetables such as cabbage, cucumber and radish. Red, hot spices are applied onto the vegetables and kept for fermentation in big jars. Extremely hot and sour, kimchi is a delicacy in Korean cuisine. Kimchi comes in airtight packets and can be found in all supermarkets in South Korea. In order not to cause your fridge to stink, make sure you keep the kimchi in airtight containers after you have removed it from its packaging.

There are simply too many things to try out in South Korea, and it is impossible for me to cover all of them here. If you like shopping and planning to go for a vacation, visit South Korea! I can assure you that you will shop till you drop!

10 Things You Should Be Monitoring On Your Website :: Get More For You Money!

May 21, 2008 | Leave a Comment

10 Things You Should Be Monitoring On Your Website

Every business needs to know how it is doing. That’s the idea behind exit surveys, customer feedback forms, suggestion boxes and other devices. Without feedback from the customer, monitoring inventory, expenses, revenue and other benchmarks, a business can take a quick slide down a slippery slope, without the owner ever seeing it coming or being able to stop the slide.

Webmasters also have things they should be monitoring on their websites. Most of these can be classified as traffic related or server performance related. Here is my top ten list.

Traffic totals. You want to know how much traffic you are generating. If the line on the graph is heading down, you know you have to find out why.

Referrers. It’s not enough just to know how many visitors you are getting. You need to know where they are coming from. I discovered I was getting a lot of visitors from a Thanksgiving site. They were all being funneled into my Thanksgiving Happiness article. Suddenly I knew I should get more links from other Thanksgiving sites. Valuable information.

Searches. Much to my surprise, my happiness site started getting a ridiculous number of hits from the search for “hairdressers”. It just so happens I wrote a humor column on a hairdresser experience. I was surprised to see it getting so much traffic for such a generic, competitive search term. If that had been a term of a little more relevance for me, this information would have lead me to properly optimize the page and get even more traffic.

Pages viewed per visit. If people visit only one page per visit, you have some work to convince them to visit more pages, like those that make you money.

Pages visited. So you threw up on your site something cool as an add-on. How were you to know that other webmasters would link to it and send a whole bunch of traffic your way? Well, now you know, so add some copy to the page to pull visitors into the rest of your site.

Forms. Are they all functioning? A good website monitoring service can keep tabs on them for you. The last thing you want is to have lost hundreds or thousands of subscribers because a sign-up form stopped functioning

Shopping carts. Slow and complicated shopping carts are responsible for an estimated $25 billion in lost sales. Make sure yours is functioning properly. A good website monitoring service can watch this for you, too.

Download speed. Clear your cache and test your pages. Hmm. Maybe those images are a bit large. Time to compress them, or even remove some. Remember that some people are on a much slower connection than you are. I use a satellite connection sometimes, but when I don’t, my connection speed is 28K.

Server speed. Are there problems with server speed? Maybe not where you are, but on the other side of the world. Global website monitoring can alert you to a transatlantic connection problem, so you can take it up with your web hosting service.

Server accessibility. All the web hosts promise 99% accessibility. But is that for real? Who monitors them? By one estimate, 75% of inaccessibility is not on the hosting server, but rather on the Internet’s backbone network and in global routing. A global website monitoring service can help identify the problem, so that you can work with your web hosting company to resolve it before too many sales are lost.

Fun. If you are not having fun, audition for that drummer position in the local band. There is no point spending your life doing something that bores you. Webmastering should be fun.
